Psalm: 134 (135):1-2,3-4,5-6

Gospel: Matthew 9:14-17

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth, for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse… Read more »

Psalm: 105 (106):1-2,3-4a,4b-5

Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13

In those days, Jesus saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples.

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”  Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 6th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Genesis 22:1-19
Psalm: 116 (117):1-2,3-4,5-6,8-9

Gospel: Mt 9:1-8

In those days, Jesus got into a boat, crossed the sea and came to his own town. And just then some people were carrying a paralyzed man lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

Then some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, “Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, “Stand up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—”Stand up, take your bed and go to your home.” And he stood up and went to his home.

When the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to human beings.

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tkunx bniedem bla fidi, iżda emmen” (Ġw 20:27). Dan huwa l-kliem li Ġesù jgħid lil Tumas fl-Evanġelju llum skont San Ġwann, u huwa l-kliem li jgħid lil kull wieħed u waħda minna. Ġesù jħeġġiġna biex aħna nemmnu, biex aħna negħlbu d-dubji tal-fidi tagħna, u nissaħħu fil-fidi tagħna f’Ġesù li huwa ħaj.

X’għamel Tumas f’din il-ġrajja? Tumas ma kienx ma’ sħabu meta Ġesù Rxoxt deher lilhom… Read more »
