Pope at Urbi et Orbi: Jesus, the Living One, is with us, forever

Dear brothers and sisters,

Christ is risen!

On this day we proclaim that he, the Lord of our life, is “the resurrection and the life” of the world (cf. Jn 11:25). Today is Easter, the Pasch, a word that means “passage”, for in Jesus the decisive passage of humanity has been made: the passage from death to life, from sin to grace, from fear to confidence, from desolation to communion… Read more »

“Ma mmutx imma nibqa’ ngħix, u nħabbar l-għemejjel tal-Mulej” (Salm 118:17). Dan hu l-kliem li tlabna fis-salm illum, u huwa l-kliem li jfisser b’mod sabiħ ħafna din il-festa kbira li qed nagħmlu llum. Dan għaliex aħna u niċċelebraw il-qawmien ta’ Ġesù, qed niċċelebraw l-ikbar u l-isbaħ festa tagħna – fuqha hija mibnija l-fidi tagħna.

Ġesù qam mill-mewt… Read more »

Mary Magdalene stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been. And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.”

When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus… Read more »

Hope does not trick us – Bishop Galea-Curmi

“Qegħdin tfittxu lil Ġesù li kien imsallab. Mhuwiex hawn, għaliex qam, kif kien qal”  (Mt 28:5-6). Din hija l-Aħbar il-kbira li ta l-anġlu lin-nisa li marru ħdejn il-qabar ta’ Ġesù, u hija l-Aħbar li tiġbor l-aktar ħaġa essenzjali – l-Aħbar it-Tajba – fil-kelma ta’ Alla. Hija l-isbaħ Aħbar, hija l-ikbar Aħbar, mhux biss għalina li nemmnu imma għall-umanità kollha.

Ir-rabta mal-Passjoni u l-Mewt

Nistgħu nifhmu ħafna x’jiġifieri din l-Aħbar li Ġesù qam mill-mewt meta aħna niftakru f’dak li ċċelebrajna f’dawn il-ġranet li għaddew, speċjalment ilbieraħ meta fakkarna l-Passjoni u l-mewt ta’ Ġesù… Read more »

Easter Reflections: The Cross

Min ma jerfax salibu u jimxi warajja ma jistax ikun dixxiplu tiegħi

Is-salib nassoċjawh mal-Għid minħabba r-rebħa ta’ Ġesù fuq il-mewt permezz tal-qawmien tiegħu iżda mhux minn dejjem kien simbolu tal-fidi Nisranija. Is-simboli li kienu jużaw l-ewwel Insara biex jidentifikaw lilhom infushom ma’ Kristu kienu l-ħaruf, l-ankra u anki l-ħuta. Imbagħad kien fi żmien l-Imperatur Kostantinu li s-salib beda jintuża bħala simbolu tal-fidi Nisranija, wara li kellu viżjoni ta’ salib bil-kliem: “B’dan is-sinjal inti tirbaħ”… Read more »
