The media event was opened by the Prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, Paolo Ruffini, who emphasized how his team would provide transparency and openness during the Synod, while ensuring that the gathering itself would remain a “protected space” for dialogue and discernment…

  • First Reading: Kings 8, 22-23. 27-30
    Psalm: 83, 3-5, 10-11

    Gospel: Lk 19, 1-10

  • Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector, and rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.  And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”  And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Fil-ġrajja tat-tieġ ta’ Kana, hemm kelma li tolqotni ħafna. Meta Ġesù jkellem lill-qaddejja, wara li Ommu Marija qaltlu li naqashom l-inbid, hu jgħidilhom: “Imlew il-ġarar bl-ilma”. U r-rakkont jgħid li dawk il-qaddejja mlew is-sitt ġarar “sax-xifer”…

Statue of Jesus intentionally submerged in the Mediterranean Sea

  • Fifty-six feet below the surface of the Mediterranean Sea, near the town of Portofino on the Italian Riviera, stands a life-sized sculpture of Jesus Christ, with arms outstretched toward Heaven in a posture of invocation.

A swimmer happening upon the sculpture might assume that its presence was some happy accident — the remains of a shipwreck containing liturgical art or a lost civilization, perhaps.

Tourists taking one of the many SCUBA-diving tours to the underwater site know better…
