Homily by Bishop Charles J. Scicluna on Ash Wednesday

  • Knisja ta’ Santa Katarina, iż-Żejtun 18 ta’ Frar 2015 Fis-silta li smajna, mill-Evanġelu ta’ San Mark (Mt 6,1-6.16-18), il-Mulej Ġesù jitkellem dwar tlett atteġjamenti: is-sawm, il-karità u t-talb. Jekk nirriflettu ftit fuq dawn it-tlett atteġġjamenti, li b’xi mod huma l-qafas tal-mixja tagħna lejn l-Għid, liema mixja nsejħulha r-Randan, nirrealizzaw li meta nitkellmu fuq is-sawm qed nitkellmu fuq mixja li rrid nagħmel fuqi nnifsi billi nitgħallem niċċaħħad u nitgħallem ir-rażan…

  • Għeżież ħuti Nsara,

Fil-bidu ta’ dan ir-Randan Imqaddes tas-sena 2015, u bi preparazzjoni għall-mixja li ser nagħmlu f’dan iż-żmien, xtaqt inwassal messaġġ qasir lil kull wieħed u waħda minnkom.

Darba minnhom, il-Fariżej u l-kittieba staqsew lil Ġesù għaliex id-dixxipli tiegħu ma kinux qed isumu…

Pope calls on Christians to express their faith in action

  • Pope Francis says the lives of Christians must be coherent and express faith in action. Speaking to the crowds gathered in a rainy St. Peter’s Square for the Sunday Angelus, the Pope invited all believers to always bear in mind the message of the Gospel, the image of the Crucified Lord, and the need to be witnesses of faith. Calling on Christians to express their faith in action, the Pope also turned to those who have yet to experience an encounter with Christ offering the gift of a pocket-sized Gospel in which “we can meet Jesus, listen to Him, and get to know Him”…

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women…

Pope Francis in Naples: Meeting with clergy and religious

  • Pope Francis spoke of the ‘terrorism of gossip’ as the biggest sign of the devils work in a meeting with priests, religious and seminarians at Naples Cathedral Saturday. The Gothic ‘Duomo’ – home to the much revered relic of St. Januarius patron Saint of Naples – was the setting for Pope Francis’ first appointment of the afternoon. He was welcomed by Cardinal Crescenzio Seppe, the Archbishop of Naples and then surrounded by an enthusiastic group of cloistered nuns who had been given special permission to attend the encounter…

    Book of Jeremiah 31:31-34

The days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers the day I took them by the hand to lead them forth from the land of Egypt; for they broke my covenant and I had to show myself their master, says the LORD. But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD…

Homily by Mgr Charles J. Scicluna during Mass on the Solemn Installation as Archbishop of Malta

  • ‘Tħobbni int?’

Il-kelmiet ta’ Ġesù lil Pietru jgħoddu għal kull wieħed u waħda minna. Ilum, b’mod speċjali, Ġesù jgħidhom lili, magħżul biex inkun ir-Ragħaj tagħkom. Id-domanda ta’ Ġesù tfakkarni fid-dgħufija tiegħi u fil-Ħniena tiegħu. Tfakkarni li l-qofol ta’ kull ministeru pastorali huwa l-imħabba: l-imħabba lejn Ġesù, ir-Ragħaj it-Tajjeb, li ħabbna qabel ħabbejnieh aħna, kif ukoll l-imħabba lejn kull membru tal-merħla tiegħu…
