CHURCH LEADERS PLEA FOR PEACE IN KOREA

Church leaders in South Korea are calling for peace on the peninsula after Tuesday’s artillery attack by the North on the island of Yeonpyeong. Father Johannes Kim Yong-hwan, chancellor of the Diocese of Incheon, which covers Yeonpyeong, asserted that relations between the North and South have worsened under current South Korean government. THE ARCHBISHOP BLESSES POPE JOHN PAUL II STATUE

On Thursday, 25th November, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. blessed a new statue of Pope John Paul II at Saint Vincent de Paule residence. The statue is the work of Michael Bonnici who works in the block name for the late Pope. Currently 144 residents are making use of the services offered in this block at Saint Vincent de Paule.

THE ARCHBISHOP PRESENTS THE MGR. AZZOPARDI AWARD

On Wednesday, 24th November, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. presided over the award ceremony of the Mgr Azzopardi Award, at the Radisson Blu Resort, St. Julians. Mgr Lawrence Gatt and Fr Joseph Borg Micallef were the winners of the award for this year’s edition. Both winners worked closely with disabled persons and their families. STUDY SHOWS CHRISTIAN PALESTINIANS WOULD RATHER STAY THAN EMIGRATE

Young educated Christian Palestinians would rather stay in their country than emigrate, if given the proper opportunities, according to results of a study commissioned by the Catholic Aid Coordination Committee, a consortium of Christian organizations in Jerusalem.

Sami El-Yousef, Jerusalem regional director of the Pontifical Mission for Palestine, a member of the consortium, said young people have a deep connection to the land and are looking to the church and church organizations to find a way to help them remain in the country by providing adequate job opportunities and help with education and housing… Read more »

WORLD YOUTH DAY ESSAY CONTEST LAUNCHED

Catholic.net is launching an essay contest in which the winner will be awarded a trip to Madrid for World Youth Day next August.

The competition is open to any youth between the ages of 16 and 28, of any nationality.

Participants are asked to write an essay answering the question: “How have you found God?”
