During the academic year starting in October, the Institute of Pastoral Formation (IFP) of the Church in Malta will organize, support and collaborate in 12 different courses, among them a new course in Catholic Media Education.  The courses offered by the Institute are all accredited by the Malta Qualifications Council and lead to a general or higher education award.

These courses serve to prepare pastoral operators in order to be able to offer a service in various fields, such as adolescents and youth, family, spiritual direction and Christian leadership.  There will also be courses in missiology, evangelization, Catholic social teaching, liturgy, Carmelite spirituality, biblical formation and parish nursing.

This is the seventh year during which the Institute of Pastoral Formation is organizing such courses, the aim of which is to enhance the identity of all those forming part of the Catholic community.  The Director of the IFP, Fr Mark Sultana, stated that “this Institute, which was officially set up in 2007, is a living sign that the Church in Malta wishes to provide formation to all those persons, groups and sectors not directly involved in pastoral work, yet feel the need to reflect more deeply upon the Gospel and Church teachings”.  Speaking about the prospectus for the new academic year, Fr Mark stated that “this gives witness to the way in which the Church is responding to the current needs of our society.  In fact, the various courses are being offered in a spirit of collaboration between Secretariats, Movements and different Organizations, and retain the charisms and specific identity of those entities who are offering this service”.
