On the occasion of the Day for Life, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi appealed to Maltese society for more people with a backbone and of principle who are brave enough to protect life from its beginning till its natural end. The Bishop focused on four points:
Not a matter of a mandate: The protection of life, even from the very first moment of conception, is a matter of principle and is not tied to a mandate given by the people.
An honour to stand alone: There is nothing to be ashamed of in defending life. It makes us proud that for us human life is so precious that we wish the very best for the child when it is still in the womb.
Zero tolerance to all threats to life: Whenever human life is in danger we should be united to protect it. This applies to the child in the womb, those in danger at sea struggling to live, those tempted to take drugs, and the elderly and the infirm.
Committed to help women who are victims: We need to help and support women who face difficulties about their pregnancy and find themselves alone in these difficult times.Bishop Galea-Curmi’s appeal is to always protect life because it is a gift. He emphasised that we must show our gratitude and pray for all those who give witness to life so that, with courage, they will continue to convey this all-important message.
