Faced with Terrorism

The terrorist attacks which took place during the last few weeks, in the city of Paris, the city of Beirut and several other countries, disrupt our normal routine and threaten the security of each and every one of us. People who follow the media feel much anger towards those who try and instill in our hearts a fear of the future.

During the liturgical feast of Christ the King, Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna said that in the face of terrorism, we should have a God-given strength to resist the temptation to combat violence with violence or with revenge.  “This is what it means to forgive your enemy”, said the Archbishop.

While remaining vigilant and remembering the victims of these terrorist attacks in our prayers, the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy invites us to pray for the grace of forgiveness towards those who do us harm. It is forgiveness that liberates us and leads to reconciliation which brings that peace which we desperately need in our families, in our nation, in the Mediterranean, in Europe and in the world.  Through forgiveness, God showers us with his mercy, and through mercy, we are enabled to forgive one another.
