Cana Movement

Cana Movement is an organisation within the Catholic Church of Malta. It was established in 1956.

It is a voluntary organisation of people who have married and family-life at heart. Cana Movement is headed by a Council, elected by its members and our mission is:

  • to assist couples in preparing themselves for married life,
  • to assist couples or individuals who are facing personal difficulties or difficulties in their relationships,
  • to assist couples in strengthening their marriage and their family,
  • to promote married life as one which is indissoluble, faithful and open to life.

The first Marriage Preparation Course was held in Sliema in 1952, led by Rev. Mgr Charles G. Vella when he was still a seminarian. During its first years, the Movement established itself as one which offers family-related services and counselling services.

Our vision for the Maltese family is that it remains a united one, one that lives the Gospel, one that becomes more aware of its role as domestic church and in the evangelisation and the sanctification of its members. Also, that the family is open to other families, especially to those going through challenging and tough times.

Cana Movement is also affiliated with FAFCE, the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe.
