L-Oratorju tal-Kurċifiss, l-Isla

  • The origins of the oratory of the Crucifix in Senglea can be traced back to the building of a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Charity, on the left of the main altar in the parish church of Our Lady of Victories. This was in 1615. The building and all the decorations of this Oratory were completed by 1733.
On 11th April 1941, the Oratory of the Crucifix was hit and it suffered major damages even though it was not completely destroyed. After the war the oratory was restored to its former glory and the statue of the Redeemer found its place back, after it was transferred to Birkirkara in a safer place.
Throughout the years different pilgrimages with the devout statue of Christ the Redeemer were held accross the Island.
