What is the Neocatechumenal Way?
The Church identifies the Neocatechumenal Way thus
1. The nature of the Neocatechumenal Way is defined by His Holiness John Paul II when he writes: “I recognise the Neocatechumenal Way as an itinerary of Catholic formation, valid for our society and for our times.”
2. The Neocatechumenal Way is at the service of the Bishops as a form of diocesan implementation of Christian initiation and of ongoing education in faith, in accordance with the indications of the Second Vatican Council and the Magisterium of the Church.
3. The Neocatechumenal Way is composed of an ensemble of spiritual goods:
i. the “Neocatechumenate” or post-baptismal catechumenate,
ii. the ongoing education in faith,
iii. the baptismal catechumenate,
iv. the service of catechesis.

In Malta and Gozo
At the invitation of H.E. Archbishop Michael Gonzi, a team of catechists came to Malta in October 1973. Those responsible for this team were Eusebio Astiaso and Giuletta Cascino who have been animating the Neocatechumenal Way in Malta since then. Today the Neocatechumenal Way is spread in a number of parishes in Malta and Gozo.
