LIFT – Living In Friendship Together – is the motto of a new youth group that was founded by seven members whom together we give our utmost to get to know and entertain other youth like us. Behind it all, is Fr. Ray Francalanza, who went out of his way to see that in the midst of the entertainment’s Mecca, Paceville, forms this group of young people at the Millennium Chapel – a chapel run by Augustinian monks.
LIFT was established formerly in June 2006, although its foundations were long ago being shaped thanks to the Saturday 21.30 mass held at the Millennium Chapel. Till today it is our weekly appointment. As soon as the initiative was taken we started to meet regularly in order for the group to identify its targets with regards to the audience we wanted to address and the ways we are going to influence the lives of the young people associating with us. The age group chosen was between 18 and 35 and our aim was in forming a circle of friendship for our members – a concept very much at heart of St. Augustine of Hippo, the spiritual father of the Augustinians.
The group evolved, and organised a great number of activities and is working to reach more people, from all strata of life, sexuality, colour and political orientation. You do not need usernames or passwords to become a member of LIFT. All you need to do is attend an activity and you’ll soon be part of our circle. Our team works intensely to see that everyone feels at home within the group.
Activities are an every month commitment and vary from moments of prayer to films, dinners, BBQs, days at the beach and three-day retreats. The success of the group does not appraise itself with the number of people present in these activities but from how much those attending are having fun. And so far we were never disappointed. The secret being in keeping the group very informal, so that everyone feels comfortable, loved and accepted just the way they are…as St. Augustine’s saying goes: Love and do what you like.
