Hope does not disappoint but strengthens us in times of trial

Message from Pope Francis on the World Day of the Sick

Dear brothers and sisters,

We are celebrating the 33rd World Day of the Sick in the Jubilee Year 2025, in which the Church invites us to become “pilgrims of hope”. The word of God accompanies us and offers us, in the words of Saint Paul, an encouraging message: “Hope does not disappoint” (Rom 5:5); indeed, it strengthens us in times of trial… Read more »

Pope’s Mission Day Message: Prayer keeps our ‘spark of hope’ alive

Pope Francis says that prayer is not only the “primary missionary activity,” but also the key to  “keeping alive the spark of hope lit by God within us…”

The Holy Father gave this comforting reminder in his World Mission Day Message for 2025, which was published by the Holy See Press Office in several languages on Thursday. The Church will observe the 99th edition of the World Day on 19 October… Read more »

Pope at Audience: May we welcome Mary’s presence in our lives

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

Today we will contemplate the beauty of Jesus Christ our hope in the mystery of the Visitation. The Virgin Mary visits Saint Elizabeth; but it is above all Jesus, in His mother’s womb, who visits His people (cf. Lk 1:68), as Zechariah says in his hymn of praise… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: ‘Jesus is our salvation and our light’

  Saint Peter's Square, Vatican City

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

Today the Gospel of the liturgy (Lk 2:22-40) tells us about Mary and Joseph who take the infant Jesus to the Temple of Jerusalem. In accordance with the Law, they present Him in God’s dwelling, to recall that life comes from the Lord. And while the Holy Family carries out what was always done among the people of Israel, from generation to generation, something happens that had never occurred before… Read more »

New Vatican document examines potential and risks of AI

The Pope’s warnings about Artificial Intelligence in recent years provide the outline for “Antiqua et Nova,” the “Note on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence,” that offers the results of a mutual reflection between the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Dicastery for Culture and Education. The new document is addressed especially to “those entrusted with transmitting the faith,” but also to “those who share the conviction that scientific and technological advances should be directed toward serving the human person and the common good” [5]… Read more »

Pope at Audience: Let’s imitate St. Joseph’s holy example and faith

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

Today we will continue to contemplate Jesus our hope in the mystery of His origins, as narrated by the infancy Gospels.

Whereas Luke lets us do so from the perspective of the mother, the Virgin Mary, instead Matthew takes the perspective of Joseph, the man who assumes the legal paternity of Jesus, grafting him onto the trunk of Jesse and linking him to the promise made to David… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Jubilee an opportunity to renew our encounter with Christ

  Pjazza San Pietru, il-Vatikan

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

This Sunday, the Evangelist Luke presents Jesus to us in the synagogue in Nazareth, the town where He grew up. He reads the passage from the prophet Isaiah announcing the Messiah’s evangelizing and liberating mission. He then says, in the general silence: ‘Today this Scripture has been fulfilled’ (cf. Lk 4:21).

Let us Imagine the surprise and dismay of Jesus’ fellow citizens, who knew Him as the carpenter Joseph’s son and would never have imagined that He could present himself as the Messiah… Read more »

Pope to Catholic communicators: ‘Tell stories that nourish hope’

As Catholic communicators from across the world convened to Rome for the Jubilee of the World of Communication this weekend, Pope Fracis urged them to approach their work with courage, integrity, and a steadfast focus on hope, liberating “the inner strength of the heart.“  “Let your storytelling be hope-telling”, the Pope said in prepared remarks he addressed on Saturday to the communicators  gathered in the Paul VI Hall… Read more »

Pope at Audience: Mary’s service reveals depths of hope in God

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

Today we will resume the catecheses of the Jubilee cycle on Jesus Christ our hope.

At the beginning of his Gospel, Luke shows the effects of the transforming power of the Word of God, which reaches not only the halls of the Temple, but also the poor dwelling of a young woman, Mary, who, betrothed to Joseph, still lives with her family… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Where we are lacking, the Lord responds abundantly

  Saint Peter's Square, Vatican City

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

The Gospel of today’s liturgy (Jn 2:1-11) tells us about Jesus’ first sign, when He turns water into wine during a wedding feast in Cana, in Galilee. It is an account that foreshadows and encapsulates the whole of Jesus’ mission: on the day of the coming of the Messiah – so said the prophets – the Lord will prepare “a feast of … choice wines” (Is 25:6) and “the mountains shall drip with the juice of grapes” (Am 9:13); Jesus is the Bridegroom who brings the “good wine”… Read more »
