We ask the Lord to be graced with shepherds who follow His heart – The Archbishop on Vocations Day

Mass on Vocations' Day

  The Vocations' Centre Chapel, Tal-Virtu

Ta’ kull sena fir-raba’ Ħadd tal-Għid nisimgħu l-kelma ta’ Ġesù li tuża din l-espressjoni qawwija ħafna u li permezz tagħha Ġesù jipprezenta ruħu bħala l-bieb u r-ragħaj.

Din is-sena fl-ewwel silta mill-kapitlu 10 ta’ San Ġwann, li hu l-kapitlu fejn Ġesù jispjega din ix-xbieha sabiħa tar-ragħaj it-tajjeb, l-enfasi hi pjuttost fuq il-bieb: il-bieb tal-maqjel, il-bieb ta’ dak l-ispazju fejn in-nagħaġ huma siguri u kkurati, lil hemm mill-periklu imma hu wkoll l-ispazju minn fejn għandhom bżonn joħorġu biex jirgħu u jmantnu lilhom infushom bl-għajnuna tar-ragħaj… Read more »

Our country’s economic “success” should never be obtained at the expense of workers

On this year’s workers’ day, the Justice and Peace Commission wishes to express its concern regarding the injustice suffered by non-EU persons working in Malta who, despite paying National Insurance contributions, do not recieve a pension.  Our current pension system relies on the assumption that non-EU workers will stay here for a few years, pay social insurance contributions and leave before receiving a pension. The Commission believes that the kind of society implied by this model is socially unjust and morally unacceptable… Read more »

I pray to St Publius that our leaders will be leaders who defend the dignity of all humans, no matter who they are – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of St Publius

The Parish Church of St Publius, Floriana

“Jiddi d-dawl tiegħek fid-dlam. Id-dlam tiegħek ikun bħal nofsinhar. Il-Mulej imexxik dejjem”. Dan il-kliem tal-profeta Iżaija li smajna fl-ewwel qari hu indirizzat ukoll illum lill-qaddis San Publiju. Ismu kien wieħed mill-iżjed ismijiet popolari fid-dinja Rumana. L-istudjużi jgħidulna li l-isem Publius kien x’aktarx il-ħames isem popolari fl-Imperu Ruman u l-għerq tiegħu kien propju riferiment għall-poplu. Mill-istess għerq ta’ Publiju għandna l-poplu stess, repubblika – dawn kollha ġejjin mill-istess għerq li jagħtina l-isem ukoll, il-prenome kif kienu jgħidulu l-Latini: publiusRead more »

Church fully supportive of commemorative monument

On 2nd November 2019, Archbishop Charles Scicluna blessed the tomb of Ġużè Ellul Mercer, who was buried at the previously unconsecrated area of the Addolorata Cemetery

The Archdiocese of Malta is disappointed to note that today It-Torċa published a front-page story riddled with inaccuracies regarding a proposal that had been made in 2020 to erect a monument honouring those affected by the interdict issued by the Church in the 1960s… Read more »
