The Church in Malta considers care for the elderly as one of its main pastoral duties. This it achieves by means of the Homes for the Elderly managed by Congregations, Groups and the Central Administration. Within these Homes, the Church in Malta cares for approximately 720 elderly persons.

The role of the Director of Dar tal-Providenza is to promote the aim for which Dar tal-Providenza was founded by Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi, offering residential services to people with disabilities while empowering them to believe in themselves in a family-like environment and to enhance their abilities so that they can fully participate in society.
