Mons. Stefan Bonanno was born in Floriana on December 18, 1965. He began his studies in the field of electronics at the Fellinberg Training Centre. He received his priestly formation at the Archbishop’s Seminary tal-Virtù, as well as at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Malta. He first graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Social Communication Studies and later obtained a Licentiate in Pastoral Theology.

He was ordained priest on July 8, 1994. He served as vice-parish priest of the Parish of Mary Immaculate Conception in Cospicua (1994-1997) and later on, as the Archpriest of the Parish of St. Lawrence in Vittoriosa (1997-2001). He continued his studies in the field of communications at the Gregorian University in Rome and gained practical experience in television direction in San Jose, California.

He himself produced over 120 television programs and won three Malta Television Awards.

He served as Chairman of the Media Centre company (2012-2017), which produced several socio-religious programs. He also played an important role in media education on a national level.

As from March 2020 to the present day, from when the Covid-19 pandemic began, he was entrusted with the responsibility of broadcasting the daily Mass from the Archbishop’s Curia and from various parishes, on all Sundays of the year.

As the Delegate for Religious Broadcasting, he is responsible for all religious transmissions aired on television and radio, produced by the Archdiocese of Malta.
