The Gospel of the day: 12th April

  • Thursday of the Second week of Easter

    Saint John 3:31-36

The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.

For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God…

Pope begins new catechesis cycle on baptism

  • Pope Francis began a new cycle of catecheses on baptism, explaining that it is the door to the other sacraments, whereby we grow in the life of grace until we come at last to our true homeland in heaven.

He also asked that Christians “appreciate the unmerited gift” they received on the day of their baptism. The pope also reminded that the Christian life is a journey of faith and union with the Lord, sustained by prayer and daily efforts to grow in the imitation of Christ.

    SUMMARY OF POPE’S CATECHESIS

    Dear brothers and sisters:

In the joy of this Easter season, we now begin a new cycle of catecheses on the sacrament of Baptism, by which we receive the forgiveness of sin and are reborn to new and eternal life in Christ…

    “Rajna lill-Mulej” (Ġw 20, 25).  Hekk qalu d-dixxipli lil Tumas it-Tewmi, li ma kienx magħhom meta fil-jum tal-Għid, fil-jum tal-irxoxt tiegħu ġie f’nofshom. “Rajna lill-Mulej”.

Ir-risposta tiegħu kienet risposta li baqgħet magħrufa u famuża: “Jekk ma narax f’idejh il-marka tal-imsiemer u ma nqigħedx sebgħi fuq il-marka tal-imsiemer u idi fuq ġenbu, jiena ma nemminx” (v…

The Gospel of the day: 10th April

  • Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter

    Saint John 3:7b-15

Jesus said to Nicodemus: “’You must be born from above.’ The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can this happen?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this? Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony. If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

L-Evanġelju li għadna kemm smajna jgħaqqad il-Ħadd tal-Għid ma’ dak li ġara tmint ijiem wara bħal-lum. Qegħdin niċċelebraw dan il-Ħadd bħala l-Ħadd tal-Ħniena Divina għaliex Ħadd fuq l-Għid, fit-tieni Ħadd tal-Għid, meta l-imgħammdin il-ġodda għall-ewwel darba jmorru għall-Ewkaristija tal-Ħadd bħala membri sħaħ tal-komunità, minn dejjem jinqara l-Evanġelju fejn il-Mulej jagħti l-aqwa don lid-dixxipli tiegħu: “Il-paċi magħkom, is-sliem għalikom” (Ġw 20, 19)…

Pope Francis on Divine Mercy Sunday: ‘Contemplate boundless love’

  • In his homily during the celebration of the Divine Mercy Sunday liturgy, Pope Francis points out that the verb “to see” is repeated over and over in the Gospel text (John 20:19-31). Although the disciples see the Lord, the Gospel “does not describe how they saw him,” the Pope said. By mentioning the detail “he showed them his hands and his side” (v…

  • The Annunciation of the Lord – Solemnity

    Saint Luke 1:26-38

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” And the angel said to her in reply, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you…
