The Gospel of the day: 11th January

  • Saint Mark 1:40-45

A leper came to him and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.” The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.

Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. Then he said to him, “See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.”

The man went away and began to publicise the whole matter…

Korean Church praying, hoping for success of talks between two Koreas

  • The Catholic Church in South Korea is praying for the success of the talks between the two Koreas, as the delegations from both sides are preparing for their meeting on Tuesday in the demilitarized zone (DMZ).  “The Korean Church has prayed and is praying for the talks between the two Koreas, and for tomorrow’s meeting to be successful. I’m happy, very happy,” Bishop Lazarus You Heung-sik of Daejeon told AsiaNews on Monday.

The 9 January meeting in the border truce village of Panmunjom is taking place amid growing tensions over North Korea’s nuclear and missile programmes and the war of words between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US president Donald Trump.  This will be the first official meeting between the two neighbours since December 2015…

The Gospel of the day: 10th January

  • Saint Mark 1:29-39

On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.” He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also…

Precautions on spreading influenza and Prayer for rain

A Circular released by the Archbishop's Curia, Monday 8th January, 2018

  • KONTRA T-TIXRID TAL-MARD

Kif nafu lkoll, bħalissa xterdet ħafna l-influwenza. Hu importanti ħafna li aħna nieħdu l-miżuri kollha biex nevitaw dak kollu li b’xi mod jista’ jxerred il-mard, speċjalment fejn jinġabru numru kbir ta’ nies bħall-knejjes jew swali tal-Knisja.

Għalhekk, min jiċċelebra l-Quddiesa għandu jassigura ruħu li jkun iddiżinfetta idejh sewwa qabel ma tibda l-Quddiesa u, f’każ ta’ bżonn, qabel jibda jqarben…

Bullying is the devil’s work, says Pope Francis

  • Just as the influence of the Holy Spirit is recognized when one does an act of charity, Christians also must recognize the presence of the devil when bullying occurs, Pope Francis said.

“When we realize that we harbour within ourselves the desire to attack someone because they are weak, we have no doubt: It is the devil. Because attacking the weak is the work of Satan,” the Pope said in his homily Jan…
