Pope Francis calls Quetta attack “senseless and brutal”

  • Pope Francis has sent his condolences after the attack on the hospital in Quetta, Pakistan, which killed over 70 people. The majority of the victims were lawyers who had gathered to mourn the assassination of the president of the Baluchistan Bar Association, Bilal Anwar Kasi, who was killed earlier in the day.   The telegram sent by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin reads: Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life following the attack on a hospital in Quetta, His Holiness Pope Francis sends heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the deceased, to the authorities and to the entire nation, as he offers the assurance of his prayers for the many injured victims of this senseless and brutal act of violence.  Upon all who mourn and upon all who have been affected by this tragedy, His Holiness invokes the divine gifts of consolation and strength…

New Collective Agreement for Holy Family Home

  • A new collective agreement has been signed between Holy Family Home, a Church residence for the elderly, and the General Workers’ Union (GWU). The agreement, covering the period 2015-2019, was signed by Mr Michael Pace Ross, Administrative Secretary of the Archdiocese of Malta, and by Mr Jeremy Camilleri, Union Secretary of the Government and Public Entities section. Pope Francis: appeal for peace in Syria

  • Pope Francis renewed his condemnation of violence and his call for peace in Syria on Sunday. The Holy Father’s appeals came following the Angelus prayer with the faithful gathered beneath the window of the Papal apartments in the Apostolic Palace. “Dear brothers and sisters,” said Pope Francis, “sadly, news continues to reach us from Syria, of civilian victims of the war there, in particular from the city of Aleppo.” The Holy Father went on to say, “It is unacceptable that so many defenseless persons – among them many small children – must pay the price for conflict – for the closure of the hearts and the want of a will for peace among the powerful.”  The Pope renewed his promise of spiritual closeness to all those suffering in Syria, along with his call for prayerful and effective concrete action to aid the sorely tried people of that war-torn land…

Pope in Assisi: forgiveness can truly renew Church and world

Pope Francis meets with refugee children

  • Pope Francis met with a group of 65 child refugees from Syria and Eritrea on Wednesday during his General Audience. The children are staying in the small town of Castelnuovo di Porto, located 25 kilometres north of Rome. The children were wearing shirts saying “Grazie Papa Francesco” [Thank you, Pope Francis], and gave the Holy Father a large teddy bear.
