POPE: ‘BLOOD DONORS OFFER INDISPENSABLE SOLIDARITY’

Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday called attention to World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on this coming Thursday, June 14th, under the sposorship of the World Health Organization. The Holy Father thanked everyone who gives blood, expressing his great appreciation for that form of solidarity, which, he said, is “indispensable to so many sick people.”

BENEDICT XVI: SPORTS IS KEY TO INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT

Benedict XVI is inviting players, fans and all of society to live the European Soccer Championship that began today with a spirit of peace and joy.

The Pope sent a message to Archbishop Józef Michalik, president of the Polish episcopal conference, on the occasion of the UEFA EURO 2012 being held in Poland and Ukraine.

The Holy Father’s message recalled the words of his predecessor John Paul II, who said that sport is important for the integral development of the person, and that the sense of brotherhood, generosity, honesty and respect for the body that comes from sports helps to build a society where conflict is replaced by healthy competition… Read more »

POPE’S JUNE PRAYER INTENTIONS HAVE EUCHARISTIC FOCUS

Benedict XVI is dedicating the month of June to pray that believers may recognize the living presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for this month. His general intention is: “That believers may recognize in the Eucharist the living presence of the Risen One who accompanies them in daily life.”

The Pontiff’s apostolic intention for June is: “That Christians in Europe may rediscover their true identity and participate with greater enthusiasm in the proclamation of and participate with more enthusiasm in the Gospel”
