Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said “men, women and children live every day in conditions approximating slavery. They are bought and sold like commodities. Their inherent dignity is degraded by unscrupulous criminals who fill their pockets by this trafficking and exploitation”. ARCHBISHOP MEETS MALTESE EMIGRANTS IN SAN FRANCISCO

During the first few days of his pastoral visit to San Francisco, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. met with Maltese emigrants at the ‘Maltese American Social Club’ as well as at the residence of the Consul General of Malta, Mr Louis Vella, where the Archbishop had the opportunity to personally meet the Maltese.

UK EVENT TO DRAW ATTENTION TO A NEW GENERATION OF MARTYRS

Bishops from countries where Christians are particularly persecuted are joining their brothers in the episcopate from the UK for an event at Westminster Cathedral to make an international call for religious freedom.

The Night of Witness, staged at Westminster Cathedral, is being organized by the Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need, amid fears that persecution is threatening the survival of Christianity in a number of countries, particularly in the Middle East… Read more »

Pope meeting five new ambassadors

Benedict XVI spoke with five new non-resident ambassadors to the Holy See, including Malaysia’s first ambassador. The Pope touched on a variety of points, ranging from poverty, to human development, to religious freedom.

The ambassadors were from Ethiopia; Ireland; Fiji; Armenia; and Malaysia.
