IRELAND INVITES ALL TO 2012 EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS

The Church in Ireland is inviting people worldwide to the 2012 International Eucharistic Congress, for a chance to deepen in communion with Christ and others.

On Monday, the preparatory phase for the June 10-17, 2012 congress was launched by Cardinal Seán Brady, archbishop of Armagh, and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin.

Cardinal Brady noted that “the purpose of every Eucharistic Congress is to deepen understanding of, and devotion to, the Holy Eucharist which is central to our Catholic faith.”

THE SEASON OF LENT

Today, 9th March 2011, the holy period of Lent begins for the Church:  forty days of prayer and penance in preparation for the celebration of the Passion, Death and Resurrection from the Dead of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

During Lent, the Church urges its members to read the Word of God, participate in the Sacraments and attend Spiritual exercises.

75% OF THOSE KILLED FOR RELIGIOUS HATRED ARE CHRISTIANS

Citing a study that found 75 out of every 100 people killed for religious hatred are Christian, the Vatican’s representative at the U.N. offices in Geneva is reiterating that freedom of religion is at the heart of fundamental human rights.

POPE: DON’T BUILD ON THE SAND OF IDEOLOGY, POWER, MONEY

Jesus Christ is the foundation of rock upon which to build one’s life, yet too many prefer to build their lives on the “sand of ideologies, power, success and money,” says Benedict XVI.

The Pope said this Sunday in his weekly Angelus address, which he delivered today before praying the midday Angelus together with those gathered in St. Peter’s Square. He reflected on the Gospel of Sunday’s liturgy, in which Christ presented the parable of the two houses: “one built on rock and the other on sand.”
