On Wednesday 7th September 2011, members of the Order of the Knights of St John gathered at St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta for the traditional memorial service for those knights of the Order who gave their lives in defence of Christianity and Malta during the Great Siege of 1565.

For the occasion of Benedict XVI’s apostolic trip to Germany, due to take place from 22 to 25 September, statistics have been published concerning the Catholic Church in that country. The information, updated to 31 December 2010, comes from the Central Statistical Office of the Church.

On Tuesday 6th September 2011, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. arrived back in Malta after leading a pilgrimage in Lourdes organized by the Lourdes Voluntary Association. Attending this pilgrimage were 350 people, which included 120 patients, 6 doctors, 12 nurses, a therapist and a pharmacist. Each patient was accompanied by a helper.

Benedict XVI is reiterating the importance of Christian unity for the success of the new evangelization.
The Pope spoke of these two papal priorities and their interrelatedness in a letter addressed to the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Kurt Koch.
